Calendar maker opts for year-round clean power
Calendar Club, a national retailer of seasonal calendars, toys and games, recently commissioned a 247 kW solar system on the roof of its Austin, Texas warehouse. With more than 1,000 stores nationwide, production and distribution is a large-scale operation requiring major electrical demands.
To help offset the environmental impacts of those demands, and reduce operating expenses at the same time, Calendar Club hired Freedom Solar Power to design and install the system, which currently offsets approximately 64 percent of the facility’s demands.
“Our company is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our operations. Freedom Solar has helped us realize that commitment with the installation of a new solar array on one of our warehouse facilities,” said Paul Hoffman, Calendar Club CEO.
The system generates its 351,000 annual kWh from 756 SunPower 327-watt modules and nine Sunny Tripower 24000TL-US three-phase inverters, chosen because the Freedom Solar Power team acknowledged them as “the most reliable and powerful inverter option,” according to Brett Biggart, managing director.
The distribution center boasts ample roof space for the system, leaving plenty of leftover space available for future expansions should the need arise for more solar in an effort to further reduce the facility’s demands.
“The entire installation process went very smoothly and we are now saving energy costs each month. Furthermore, our employees are very proud of the fact that a portion of our daily energy use comes directly from the sun,” Hoffman continued.
With the abundant Texas sunshine, this system will be generating clean, renewable power throughout many puppy and kitty-filled calendars.
